New Insights Snapchat Shares the Roles that Social Platforms Play in Facilitating Close Connections

Where other social media channels are working to foster their capacity to boost content, Snapchat distinguishes itself as it highlights its role in fostering meaningful connections among people. Snapchat claims that it facilitates more intimate and authentic ways of communication for its 406 million daily active users.


In a quest for more in-depth insights, the platform recently authorized the National Opinion Research Centre, NORC at Chicago University to dive deep into the function of online communication networks in interpersonal relationships.

These connections or communication modes will be evaluated among both teen and young adult Spanchat users. According to the NORC team, they surveyed over 2000 Snapchat users, aged between 13 and 40.

This valuation provides new data into how online communication platforms facilitate their users, and how specifically Snapchat forces audience engagement.

First at first, the study indicates that communication via direct message or DM with family members and close friends is a key source of happiness for young people.

“According to NORC, about two-thirds of young people say direct messaging with family and close friends makes them feel extremely or very happy. This is the only feature of online communications platforms that makes a majority of both teens and young adults happy.”

The study further reveals that interacting with family and friends remains an essential usage element on the platform. Moreover, it’s been indicated that around half of all the participants from surveys use online communication networks to connect every day. This fact underlines the connective value of communication networks and Snapchat is particularly playing a pivotal role in this regard.

The data derived from the NORC report demonstrates that participants who actively use Snapchat show higher satisfaction with the quality of relationships with their friends and family members compared to non-Snapchatters.

However, compared to non-users, Snapchatters also convey positive feelings around self-expression and creativity over the platform.

Around 69% of Snapchat users say that they feel like becoming a part of an environment where they can easily showcase their creative side to the world. This is a comparative statement corresponding to 58% of non-Snapchatters.

On social media platforms, direct messaging is the only aspect users want to do more compared to other features they are using through social media channels.

Other studies reveal that Snapchat is a social platform that comes with necessary limitations on advertising options and exposure possibilities. But, the survey results underline the worth of Snapchat as a trusted messaging platform. Thus, it can offer more options for secure branding and promotions in the app.

Experts reveal that if users can establish strong connections on the platform, they are likely to achieve more business advantages. It can happen because the platform gets broader trust and connection, fostering more positive interactions.

Besides encouraging meaningful connections between users, Snapchat also promotes some other noteworthy features making it a unique social network than others.

For instance, the platform shows users bitmoji instead of your real pic, making it a safer place. Only those people can send you snaps and chat who are in your friend list.
