How Can You See If Someone Is Not Following You On Facebook

How Can You See If Someone Is Not Following You On Facebook

Previously, there were only Facebook friends on your profile. Now, people can also follow your profile without having to add you as a friend, provided your account is public. The ones in your friend list are automatically following you. The question here is, how can you check if someone is not following you on Facebook?

You don’t get a notification from Facebook when someone unfollows you. Worry not, there are ways you can manually find out and tell if someone unfollowed you on Facebook. This post will shed light on various ways to do that. Keep reading until the end to find answers to your questions.

Difference Between Unfriending and Unfollowing

One of the major questions to address here is, what’s the difference between someone unfriending or unfollowing me? Does unfollowing essentially mean they have blocked me? We are here to wipe out all your confusion right away!

Before knowing the difference between unfriending and unfollowing, you must understand a few important things. These are:

  • When you add someone to your friend list, they automatically start following you unless they choose to unfollow you.
  • You can be friends with someone and still unfollow them and vice versa.
  • You can follow someone without adding them as your friend if their account is public and they have enabled followers on their profile.
  • You can unfollow someone even if you are not added to their friends list.
  • No, Facebook doesn’t notify you when you unfollow someone or someone else unfollows you.

So, back to the question, how is unfollowing someone different from unfriending them?

  • If you are in a user’s friend list and you unfollow them, you will stop receiving updates from them and anything they post in your news feed. You will still appear on each other’s friend list despite unfollowing them.
  • If you unfriend someone, you will automatically unfollow them and be removed from their friend list and they will be removed from yours.
  • If you are not added as a friend to someone’s profile you want to unfollow, you will simply no longer receive updates from them in your news feed. They will not get a notification if you unfollow them.

Reasons to Unfollow Someone’s Profile

How Can You See If Someone Is Not Following You On Facebook

Social media is an overwhelming place with a constant influx of all kinds of information. It can sometimes take a toll on your mental health and you might want to take a break. There could be several other reasons to unfollow someone’s profile.

1. Sales Content

There are people on Facebook who constantly post about something and they also kind of impose it on their friends to like, follow, subscribe, or buy it. If you don’t want to come across such content every other day, you could simply unfollow them.

2. Offensive Posts

Some people are habitual of sharing offensive or insensitive content on their Facebook. Such posts might not align with your moral values and you get disturbed whenever you come across them. For your mental peace, you can choose to unfollow those people.

3. Limit Frequent Updates from Them

Some people post on their Facebook profiles several times a day. Either they are sharing other people’s posts or every big and small life update. If they are taking a trip or having a good time, their posts might also end up giving you FOMO. So it can be annoying to see your newsfeed filled with most of their posts. So you can unfollow them to limit seeing frequent updates from them.

4. Boring or Repetitive Content

Some of your friends or people who you are following keep posting the same boring stuff over and over. You don’t want to see posts from them anymore. So this also might be one reason to unfollow someone and rid yourself of unnecessary drama or repetitive content.

Ways to Find Out Who Unfollowed You

We know you might be curious to find out who unfollowed me on Facebook. Although you are notified if someone unfollows you. Likewise, when you unfollow someone, they are not notified about it either. So there’s a way you can see Facebook unfollowers through your profile.

Go to your Facebook profile and open your friend list. Click on the Followers tab to have a look at the list of your followers. There is a search bar at the top of the page where you can type the name of the user to see if they are still following you or not. If you don’t find them in your followers’ list, there is a probability they have unfollowed you.

Repeat this process to check your unfollowers on Facebook.

Alternatives to Unfollowing

Sometimes unfollowing a user may not be the right answer to your concerns. Chances are you only want to limit getting updates from them. So Facebook has come up with two alternatives if you don’t want to unfollow someone permanently.

1. Take a break

When you take a break from someone’s profile, you limit interaction with their posts. Since you will not see any posts from them unless you visit their profile, the interaction will automatically be rare. They also won’t receive a lot of updates from you and you can even update your privacy settings so they can’t see the content on your profile.

2. Snooze for 30 days

If you snooze someone for 30 days, you won’t get any updates from them in your newsfeed for a month. After 30 days, you will automatically start receiving updates from them like before. This can be helpful especially if you are experiencing FOMO after seeing someone’s pictures from their trips or eating at fancy places.
